A Day In The Life Of A Wedding Planner

Today we're taking a peek at a wedding planner's day on game day, also known as the wedding day.

It's time to put yourself in the shoes of a Wedding Planner.

One of the most important things that most inexperienced planners underestimate is how much of your own preparation is required.

On the big day, you must be prepared to put your best foot forward for your clients and keep there throughout the day and night.

Yes, the old adage is true: if you don't prepare, you prepare to fail!

When you're the Wedding Planner, here's our 'warm up' routine on the day before the wedding.

Prepare the night before

This changes depending on the wedding, but here's an outline of what we recommend you do the day before:

Gather everything you'll need on your wedding day.

Make folders for yourself and everyone on your team that contain checklists, run-sheets, floorplans, seating charts, and so on. Everyone should have both a hard copy and an electronic copy.

To save energy, charge any electronic gadgets and then turn them off. Devices and chargers should be brought.

Examine and replenish your emergency supply kit.

Follow up with vendors and your staff one last time, and then contact your couple.

Most wedding planners dress smart casual for the most of the wedding day and change before the wedding, so pack your wedding clothes, as well as a vanity bag, as part of your preparation so you may freshen up as needed on the day.

Try to complete all of this in the first half of the day before the wedding, and if feasible, pack your car.

Do this no matter what hour you have to depart the next day!

Take the afternoon/evening before your vacation.

Okay, this may appear to be a luxury, but try to spend time on something other than wedding work.

The wedding day is intense and will drain you completely.

If you're also styling the wedding, your working days could last two or three days (if you need to pack up too). So, by any standard, you deserve to relax before kicking into high gear.

Eat and prepare a picnic

You'll quickly realise that eating might be difficult to come by while playing the game.

So have a nice supper the night before and a big breakfast the day of, and you'll be ready to go.

PLUS...there won't be time to stop for coffee, water, or a bite to eat. Make sure to bring coffee, snacks, and plenty of water!

There are numerous things you must do in order to be successful on your wedding day. These are only the tip of the iceberg; as with anything, it takes time and practise.

But that is why we are here. If the notion of arranging weddings for a living appeals to you, look into the Certificate in Wedding Planning.

It's the ideal training to get you started and show you how to move from beginner to pro in just three months.
